You don't have to get on a box to get a point across, but we still call it a soap box because original orators got up on soap boxes in order to be seen and heard above other people...usually, these speakers were considered unimportant enough that they didn't get podiums. They'd have to be free sites, but if it were up to me I'd just put the WebMD symptom checker on and be happy.
